Global shipments are subject to duties and taxes specified by customs of destination countries associated with local trade protection and economic policies between nations. These are cleared based on the origin country, the assessable value and quantity, regardless of purpose.
Typically, the receiver shoulders the payment of duties and taxes. This is true for e-commerce purchases made online. This however, can easily be overlooked by buyers and sellers alike. Being relatively new and democratised by technology, awareness of duties and taxes for international shipments is not known to many and is easily prone to guesswork that cause delays in clearance leading to unforeseen costs.
Shippers can offer their customers greater convenience by using their DHL account to cover duties and taxes for their shipments over at the destination country. This is known as “Duties & Taxes Paid (DTP)”. Commonly referred to in abbreviation as DTP, or DDP. DHL lets you manage your shipment’s duties and taxes in advance thus, minimising guesswork, reducing possible delays and giving a transparent breakdown of costs.
The result is a great customer experience that drives preference, repeat purchase as well as customer loyalty. Now that’s excellence, simply delivered via DHL Express.
